Back Roads PAC was founded in 2026 by Steve Schwab after a run for the Texas Legislature in a rural, red district. Despite losing, after seeing the gaps in resources for rural candidates and the Democratic Party in rural areas, he decided staying on the sidelines was no longer an option. His hypothesis was the rural gap for the Democratic Party only exists because we do not invest enough in meeting people where they are, and from there Back Roads PAC was started.

Back Roads PAC is investing in the next generation of rural candidates. The farmers, hunters, and miners that Democrats have forgotten and under-resourced for years. We aim to support getting their messages out where people are, which isn't always traditional media or TV.  Rural areas demand and deserve a specialized and authentic strategy. And that’s what we do.
